How to Choose the Right Care for Your Child
 
Ask yourself these questions:
  • Does the Provider share your feelings about children?
  • Does her philosophy of discipline mesh easily with your own?
  • Is the Group Setting appropriate for your child?
  • Do the hours of operation accommodate your work schedule?
  • Does the Provider offer a routine similar to yours at home?
  • Is the physical environment inviting and comfortable for your child?
  • Is the Provider Licensed and Insured to care for children in her home?
  • Is the Provider Infant/Child CPR trained and First-Aid Certified?
  • Does the Provider regularly attend professional workshops / seminars or continuing education in Child Devleopment?
  • Is the Provider a member of any Professional Childcare Associations?
Connecticut Licensed Family Daycare Providers Must Meet the Following Requirements to Maintian Licensure:
  • Complete Comprehensive Application to be filed with the Department of Health
  •  Have a current Medical Examination for Medical Clearance
  • Extensive Background Check (completed for all Adult members of the Home)
  • Complete an Interview with the Department of Mental Health
  • Home Inspection by Department of Public Health
  • Maintain Current First-Aid Certification
  • All Family Daycare Homes must have a First Aid Kit, Smoke Detectors, and Fire Extinguisher(s) 
Northwest CARE Members Go Beyond:
  • Provide Activities for Children based on Knowledge of Child Development
  • Preschool Programs may be Offered
  • Attend Monthly Membership Meetings with Guest Speakers
  • Exchange Provider Concerns, Issues and Activites
  • Participate in Continuing Education Programs and Seminars
  • Providers may Participate in Federally Funded Nutrition Programs Following USDA Guidelines
